Youth Volunteer Conference

Some 300 youth volunteer leaders from all over the world will be attending this 3 day Youth Volunteer Conference held at SMU. It is a platform for youth delegates to meet and exchange knowledge, experiences and volunteer related causes.

The opening ceremony on day 1 will be addressed by the Guest of Honour; the Minister for Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and keynoted by CNN Hero of the Year 2009 Efren Penaflorida.

On day 2, delegates will partner with Singapore based non-profit organisations to do voluntary work in pilot projects covering a multitude of causes. The session will be a discovery of volunteerism in various cultural and social contexts, while experiencing volunteering in Singapore.

Delegates will have the opportunity to build networks and relationships at an International Social Evening held that night. There will be melting pot of ideas and interaction amongst the delegates. Booths showcasing volunteer projects and ideas from across the globe will be on display. There will be performances held by the host country and performing arts groups.

Workshops sandwich the high profile networking lunch on the final day and they cover topics such as leadership development, strategic planning, project management, building networks, resource development. Participants will work with expert youth workshop facilitators to build their arsenal of tools that can be use for the betterment of their communities.

As an Olympic-style event for volunteers, the YVC will continue to serve as a platform for volunteerism and its related causes. The next IAVE event will be held in Glasgow, Scotland in 2013.
