Give a rescued cat a forever home

By Micah Sulit, who joined the Cat Welfare Society in January 2011. Her growing love for animals, vegetarianism, and volunteer work in animal welfare all began with a community cat.

Cat Welfare Society (CWS) is for the first time, collaborating with Pet Lovers Foundation (PLF) in a three-month community cat adoption drive and a Responsible Cat Ownership education campaign in selected Pet Safari stores, which started on 4 September 2011.

The cats that are up for adoption include rescued kittens and rehabilitated cats from the now defunct Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. The 50 cats previously owned by railway workers and tenants were left at the premises when the station was handed over to Singapore Land Authority (SLA) on 30 June 2011. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and foster carers, the more sociable adult cats are ready for a new family and a loving home.

CWS will be screening potential adopters on their commitment to a pet, and educating them the responsibilities involved in owning and caring for a cat, such as sterilising their cats and “cat-proofing” their home. Successful adopters will have to pay an adoption fee of S$40 and will receive a Pet Lovers Centre “Adopter’s Starter Kit” worth $30 each, including discounts or vouchers for recommended cat care products.

The Community Cat Adoption Drive will run fortnightly on Sunday from 3pm to 8pm with around 10 to 15 adorable cats and kittens seeking homes:
